The On Our Own house has been temporarily closed due to the pandemic, but we are up, running, and providing online services. Visit our Support Overview for a list of these services.

Virtual Group Meetings

We are offering the following Virtual Group Meetings through Zoom.

To use Zoom, you need either

  • a phone (smart phone, regular cell phone, or landline)

    • Just before the meeting time, call the number in the group description.

  • a computer (tablet, laptop, or desktop)

    • Download the Zoom Client for Meetings.

    • Create your account, following the instructions.

      • If you are new to Zoom and need help before a group starts, please call the center to speak with one of our staff.

Virtual Group Etiquette

Trust your facilitator

  • Please do not share without being called upon by the facilitator. Be assured that the facilitator is notified whenever anyone wishes to participate. This includes people who are calling in.

Tardiness

  • If you join after the meeting has started, wait for the group facilitator to call on you. Please do not contribute without being called upon.

Contributing in Group

  • Please be mindful of the details of what you share during group that what you say may traumatize or trigger others coping with trauma.

  • If you want to speak or share, use the "hand," simply wave or use the "chat" feature. The group facilitator will then un-mute your line.

  • No cross talk or giving advice. Limit your sharing to your own personal experience. Use "I" statements.

Be Mindful of Your Space

  • Actions. Please turn off camera if you are eating, smoking, vaping, or moving around.

  • Noise. Make sure you are in a quiet and private space with no or little background noise. The group facilitator can mute you, but if you are on your phone speaker, everyone around you can hear the private sharing. Please be respectful of the group's privacy. If you cannot find a private space but still want to join the group, please use headphones and keep your call muted.

Patience

  • Be patient with the process. Many people are new to virtual meetings, and it may take a while for everyone to figure out how it works.

  • Remember that everyone makes mistakes; no one is perfect.

Anxiety Group

Wednesday 1pm to 2pm

Please note that this is close to On Our Own members only.

Approximately 18% of the adult population struggles with fearfulness and concerns about the future. At center, anxiety is founded upon care for ourselves and others. We see potential threats to those we care about, and seek to keep them safe from harm. Anxiety can be counterproductive, however, and be disabling. It can get in the way of positively addressing the things that we are anxious about. In this group, we explore how to manage our anxieties, and use our concern for others as an instrument of positive change.

Anger Management

Anger Management

Monday 1pm to 2pm

Explore, learn, and develop new strategies to help manage anger and other emotions. Anger is a normal, healthy reaction to the world, and in itself is neither good nor bad. It signals to us that a situation is upsetting, unjust, or threatening. In certain circumstances, however, anger and similar emotions can overcome our ability to address the very thing that is causing our strong reactions. And sometimes, our reactions can make the problem worse by hurting ourselves or others. In this group, we explore how to manage our strong reactions to the world, and use their power for positive change.

Open to all.

You may also email director@onourowncville.org to request verification that you attended this group. In your email, please provide an email address at which you can be reached, or the name and email address of the person requiring proof of attendance.

We check in to talk about our work, our challenges and successes, and if/when you’re ready, share your work with the group.
